What is a martingale collar?
A martingale is a limited-slip collar. A second loop of webbing holds the leash ring, so when your dog pulls, the collar tightens just enough to stay put, then relaxes the moment the leash goes slack. Day to day it sits comfortably loose on the neck, with no buckle to dig in.
Why dog owners choose a martingale
- Escape-proof. Dogs can't back out of it on walks, which makes it a favorite for rescues, flight-risk dogs and nervous walkers.
- Gentle control for pullers. The tightening is limited and spread around the whole neck, never choking, with less pressure on the trachea than a standard collar.
- Made for slim heads and wide necks. Ideal for greyhounds, whippets, salukis, Italian greyhounds and any dog whose head is narrower than its neck.

How to measure: measure around the middle of your dog's neck and around the widest part of the head (over the ears). Choose the size whose range includes both measurements, because a martingale slips on over the head. XS and Small cover the same neck range: XS is a slimmer 3/4" width for petite dogs, Small is 1" wide.
Proper fit: when the leash is pulled tight, the two metal rings should not touch. If they do, adjust the collar smaller.
Good to know
- Designed for walking and supervised wear; remove it when your dog is crated or unattended.
